Hello and welcome!

I’m Maria, a freelance sketchnoter driven by creativity and a deep sense of curiosity. Since I’m Portuguese, I don’t just go by Maria – I have the full name experience: Maria Manuel Ricardo de Oliveira Nunes. Just like my name, I have many “Marias” within me, which is why I created the three characters bellow:

First, there’s a Maria who loves to draw and is obsessed with colors and pens. Then, there’s another Maria with a scientific background, always curious about the world around her. Finally, there’s the Maria with grey hair, representing the old soul I’ve always been.

Because I have so many interests, choosing a single path in life was never easy—until I discovered Sketchnotes. It lets me combine my love of learning, my scientific mindset, and my passion for drawing without needing to be a “traditional” artist.

In sketchnotes, it’s all about IDEAS, not ART!

I’m currently living in Germany, where I completed my PhD in Biochemistry. My scientific career has given me the opportunity to work in several countries and learn different languages along the way. I’m excited to offer collaboration in English, Portuguese, or German.

And why Mimel Olive? Mimel is short for Maria Manuel, a nickname my cousin gave me as a child when he couldn’t pronounce my full name. Olive comes from Oliveira, and together, they reflect two of my favorite things: honey (mel in Portuguese) and olives!
